NETS-T 4: PROMOTE AND MODEL DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of resources
address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools
Reflection: In education, it is vital to teach our students responsibility in all areas. With our students growing up in the middle of the digital age, teaching digital responsibility is extremely important. In addition, it is our duty to introduce our students to diferent ideas and cultures. With tools like "United Streaming" and Distance Learning, we have the ability to introduce our students to the far corners of the world without leaving the building. After the Haiti earthquake, I found this video that addressed the probability of earthquakes in the midwest. I wanted the students to make the connection that even though our area has a low probability of an earthquake, it can happen. This lesson also addressed Probability and Data Analysis, the topic we were discussing.
